The idea of a formal Bible training institute has been on GWM’s radar for at least three years. Patrick and Hastings realised there are limits to what they can achieve on their own. But the dream was inspired by the many untaught pastors in Mulanje, eastern Malawi, who realised that their people’s lives were not being transformed, because they had been preaching their own ideas rather than the true gospel! The lack of results in their unchanged hearts and lives was all too obvious.

And so, after 3 years of occasional Bible teaching weekends, we have been able to respond to their cry for the true gospel, and Mount Mulanje Bible Institute (MMBI) opened its doors in January this year.

Since then, monthly, week-long sessions have taken place using materials from Johannesburg Bible College. So far we have 17 students, with 13 studying in English and four in Chichewa. We prayed for more, but the Lord has given us what we can manage for now, and we thank God for the progress made so far.

Some of the students boasted grand sounding church titles and high social standing, yet have humbled themselves to learn how to teach the Bible faithfully. We thank God for them. Madalitso Bartimaeus speaks for many when he exclaimed: “The days where one could preach a bad sermon without it being noticed are over; expository preaching has opened our eyes - the blind can now see!”

With this new work comes increased need. Please prayerfully consider supporting us financially. Here are some of our practical needs:

1.        Funds to help us adapt the rented building to suit the college’s objectives.

2.        A new printer for copying of the Bible teaching materials.

3.        Books for our developing college library.

We value your ongoing prayers. Please especially pray that our students will continue learning with passion and humility.
